Reconstructing Ourselves has begun!

Skin or Cloth-patient portraits (2008)

Reconstructing Ourselves has begun! We ran our first workshop this month in which ten women very kindly attended to share their stories of undergoing complex breast reconstructive surgery with us.

The aim of the session was to sensitivley explore their experiences, to inform the direction of the project and the interpretative artworks that I will be producing.

We ran an activity in story mapping in which the women were asked to visually map their journeys throughout this very personal process of surgical reconstruction. I am keen to convey the identities of these wonderful women through the artworks that I create later in the project.

The session was a great success and we are very grateful to everyone who took part.

I will be running a series of workshops over the coming months for patient groups to explore relationships with their changing bodies, as they transition through reconstructive surgery operations.

* Details of future Reconstructing Ourselves activities will be posted to this site.
